Police arrested a 22 year old West Bend man for entering unlocked vehicles and stealing property on South John Street.

A police officer passed by a residence and observed the male subject in the passenger side of a vehicle. When the officer confronted the man, he admitted to stealing items from the vehicle. He told officers that a friend advised him that Mayville was a gold mine and that he drove to Mayville for the sole purpose of stealing items from any unlocked vehicles. The man was responsible for entering fifteen vehicles in about an hour and taking numerous items.

The Mayville Police Department has seen an increase in thefts from unlocked vehicles. This case is still under investigation and charges are pending.
