City Council votes to layoff police officers

On August 25, 2009, the joint Personnel/Finance Committee recommended to the City of Mayville Common Council, which was unanimously approved, to lay off two Mayville Police Department Officers. Officer Nate Klapoetke, a 3 year veteran, and Officer Kyle Parish, a 1 year veteran. These are excellent officers with many skills that helped keep this community safe. "As Chief of Police, I want to thank them and their families for the sacrifices they made, and the devoted police service they gave this community" said Police Chief William Linzenmeyer.

The economic condition has affected our community like many others, The committee's attempt to obtain concessions from the Mayville Police Department union did not meet the expectations that was needed. The Mayville Police Department is comprised of excellent police officers that take great pride in the services they provide in this community. This change will challenge this department. The Mayville Police Department will make every effort to continue to provide services to the City of Mayville.
