2001 marked the first year for Mayville Police Department’s motorcycle patrol program. Mischler’s Harley Davidson of Beaver Dam, provided an opportunity to us to lease a 2001 FXDP Harley Davidson Dyna Defender through a special lease program.

Art Mischler provides the lights and siren package and provides all service. We lease the motorcycle April through October. The program is paid for through the crime prevention fund and does not affect the city’s operating budget. Three officers are involved in the program and are seen on patrol during various shifts.

The program has been incredible for opening communication between the officer and the public. Both young and old will walk out of their way just to speak to the officer. It breaks the ice and opens opportunities to address endless topics such as community safety issues, crime prevention measures, or just allowing a person to meet and speak to an officer. This program has been a definite asset to this department.
