Mayville Police Department Announces 2024 Citizens Police Academy

The Mayville Police Department is announcing the 2024 Citizens Police Academy. The Academy meets every Thursday night from March 14 to May 23, 2024, for a total of 11 weeks. The classes will be from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on most nights; however, the time will be adjusted slightly if the schedule warrants it.

Detective Petrack stated, “We want to give the citizens of Mayville an opportunity to learn what some aspects of our job is how and why we do things. This class allows us to offer citizens the hands-on experience of Mayville Police Department.”

The classes will consist of use of force, defense and arrest tactics (DAAT), traffic stops, OWI enforcement, evidence, crime scenes, firearms, and others. Participation in this Academy will allow you to ride along with an officer and have exposure and insight that most people don’t receive.

Rev. Dr. Mark Cutler, of St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Mayville, was a 2023 Academy participant. He stated, “If you get an opportunity to be selected for a future citizen police academy, I would strongly suggest it. It changed my thinking and attitude of law enforcement.”

The Mayville Police Department takes pride in its community and knows that citizens are a crucial role in crime solving. Officers learn new things every day and are looking forward to learning from you as well.

The class size is limited to just 12 participants. Pick up an application at the Mayville Police Department or download it by clicking here. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2024. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and live or work in the City of Mayville.
